Building Regulations generally apply if you want to build an extension to your home.

However, a porch or conservatory built at ground level and with a floor area of no more than 30m2 in floor area is normally exempt, provided that any glazing and any fixed electrical installation complies with the applicable requirements of the Building Regulations (i.e. Part K - ‘Protection from falling, collision and impact’ and Part P - ‘Electrical Safety’ for England only) (Part N - ‘Glazing’ and Part P - ‘Electrical Safety’ relevant to Wales).
